Frequently asked questions
How do I estimate resale value honestly?
Search completed listings for the same or similar components at the age you plan to sell. Well regarded speakers and amplifiers from established brands tend to hold value better than digital sources, which age faster. When in doubt, enter a lower figure and treat the result as a conservative estimate.
Why include sales tax in the cost of ownership?
Because it is money you spend and never recover. On a 12,000 USD system at 8 percent, tax is nearly 1,000 USD, which is often more than several years of upkeep.
What should count as annual upkeep?
Anything the system needs to keep running as intended: stylus retips or replacements, tube sets, capacitor service on older gear, streaming subscriptions, and electricity for power hungry amplifiers. Average irregular costs over the years you keep the system.
